Greg
Smart Plant Care Companion for Plant Lovers

At Greg.app, I led design efforts to build a platform for plant lovers, working as the sole designer on a small team of eight. I was responsible for everything from UX/UI to brand identity, helping shape Greg into a welcoming hub for the plant care community. It was a collaborative and rewarding experience, and I’m proud that our work contributed to raising $5.4 million in seed funding.

Problem
Plant ownership is on the rise, but plant care knowledge hasn’t caught up.
-
Most users didn’t know what kinds of plants they had or how to care for them properly. Each plant species has unique needs, and generalized advice leads to over- or under-watering.
-
Many new plant owners felt overwhelmed or unsure when their plants died. There was no supportive space to ask questions, share wins, or learn from others without judgment
As a result, users were often guessing their way through plant care—leading to frustration, stress, and dead plants.
Solution
Designed Greg from the ground up as a joyful, community-powered plant care app that removes the guesswork and replaces it with smart, customized guidance.
Personalized Watering & Care Schedules
-
Created dynamic plant profiles that adapt to the user's environment: sunlight exposure, humidity, and plant size.
-
Partnered with a plant scientist to translate complex botanical rules into a smart algorithm.
-
Built a simple, tappable calendar-like UI to track watering and care actions.
Plant Parent Community Driven Design
-
Designed onboarding flows to make adding plants feel like opening a digital garden—playful, personal, and visual
-
Designed a "Name Your Plant Feature" based on user study that identified Plant Parents' needs
-
Proposed a discovery feed where users could post their plants, ask questions, and celebrate milestones (like a new leaf 🌱)
Defined a Friendly and Unique Visual Branding
Defined Greg’s visual identity—soft, organic, and calming. I chose rounded shapes, earthy colors, and friendly typography to make the app feel approachable even for total beginners.
